2011 National Guqin Dapu Conference

Translation by Christopher Evans

The subject of the Chinese Guqin Dapu Conference to be held in Changshu in May 2011 is the Ming dynasty Songxianguan Qinpu (the version in the Si Ku Quan Shu, Qin Qu Jicheng Vol. 8, and downloadable from www.chinese guqin.org). We now invite good dapu works from qin players in all areas, the procedures being as follows:
  1. Each person may freely select up to three pieces from the Songxianguan Qinpu (including the Appendices) to dapu; the draft dapu are to be given in both cipher (number) notation and jianzi-pu; manuscript work must be clearly written. Sound recordings (CD) should be attached. The paper and recorded materials must be submitted to the office of the Chinese Guqin Society on or before 31 December 2010.

  2. Chinese and foreigners who are involved in the qin may take part in the activities. During the dapu process the symbols in the original tablatures must be followed strictly; changes must not be made unless there are obvious mistakes in the original tablature, in which case the reasons for the changes must be given.

  3. When the drafts have all been received, between one and three of the best for each piece will be selected and centrally recorded.

  4. At the same time, new compositions are sought for the Dapu Conference; they must be new works which have not been published or recorded on CD, DVD or in other formats. The deadline is as above.

  5. During the dapu Conference there will be separate conferences for dapu works and new compositions. Academic papers related to the Songxianguan Qinpu are invited, to be submitted to and discussed at the Conference.

  6. The selected dapu works, new compositions and papers will be collected and published, the copyright being retained by the Guqin Academic Committee of the Chinese Nationalities’ Instrumental Music Association. The Association will bear all food and accommodation costs in Changshu of persons whose work is selected, together with part of their travel costs.
