Meeting 13 September 2014



Introduction

This, the 71st meeting of the London Youlan Qin Society, was held in the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. We were delighted to welcome Li Shaohao, who performed two songs he has written in which he plays the guqin, accompanid by guitarist Joe Singleton.

Music

The following music was played:

  2. The Song We Used to Know, by Li Shaohao (vocal and guqin) and Joe Singleton (guitar)
  3. Guan Shan Yue 关山月 (Moon over the Mountain Pass), played by Cheng Yu guqin and Dennis Lee (xiao)
  4. Cang Jiang Ye Yu 沧江夜雨 (Evening Rain over the Azure River), played by Charles Tsua
  5. Qiu Jiang Ye Bo 秋江夜泊 (Mooring at Night on the River in Autumn), played by Dennis Lee (xiao solo)
  6. Jiu Kuang 酒狂 (The Drunkard), played by Ye Meng
  7. Ping Sha Luo Yan 平沙落雁 (Wild Geese Descending on the Level Sand), played by Julian Joseph
  8. Yu Qiao Wen Da 渔樵问答 (Dialogue of the Fisherman and the Woodcutter), played by Charles Tsua guqin and Dennis Lee (xiao)
  9. Yi Guren 忆故人 (Thinking of an Old Friend), played by Jenny Zhao
  10. Qiu Feng Ci 秋風词 (Ode to Autumn), played by Su Zhang
  11. Meihua San Nong 梅花三弄 (Three Variations on the Plum Blossom), played by Charles Tsua
  12. Yueren Ge 越人歌 (Song of the Yue Boatmen), played by Dennis Lee (chiba solo). This was composed by Tan Dun and used in the film "The Banquet".
  13. Tian Lai 天籁 (Sounds of Nature), played by Julian Joseph
