Meeting 10 July 2021

Introduction

This, the 113th meeting of the London Youlan Qin Society, was held online using Zoom. It was the eighth time our society has held a yaji meeting online, and it enabled qin friends around the world to join our meeting.

The meeting began at 1 pm UK time and ended at approximately 4 pm. Cheng Yu introduced the yaji and welcomed everybody. We were delighted to present master of Nanyin music Lady Cai Yayi 蔡雅艺 and Chen Silai 陈思来 from the Quanzhou Nanyin Yayi Association, Fujian, China, who performed three pieces. Nanyin is one of China's oldest traditional narrative genres, and still uses the Tang-style pipa (held horizontally) and xiao flute. It was a rare treat to see a live performance of Nanyin music by these masters.
